EUROPEAN YOUTH PARLIAMENT

EYP organizes a series of events that are essential elements in the organization: Teambuilding, Committee Work, General Assembly and additional cultural-instructive moments such as the Euroconcert, the Eurovillage (cultural event which depicts the participating countries folklore and cooking), the Panel Session (political discussions with the participation of local and European politicians) etc.

At the over 80 regional, national and international events a year in the 33 national organisations, the EYP reaches well over 20,000 young people.

EYP events take place under the form of local, national, regional or international sessions, camps, seminars, training camps for journalists, chair-persons etc. The number of people that take part in this event is variable (between 30-300 participants). The next International Sessions will take place in Stockholm (spring 2009) and Leuven (summer 2009).

Participants at a EYP event have various positions such as: politician delegates, musician delegates (they take part to an artistic moment in Eurovillage/ Euroconcert), ambassador delegates, chair person (in charge of a committee), journalists, local and international organizers, members of the board (president, vice-president, secretary), national and international committee members. Teachers are also involved during the event; they participate to the general program and a personal educative- creative program. Also local and international official characters are invited: the ambassadors of the participating countries, members of the European Parliament and the European Commission, etc.

At the present time, EYP Romania participates at all these kinds of events and is currently organizing the 2010 Regional Selection Sessions. Candidates will be selected for the Romania National Selection Session which will take place in autumn 2010. Next international event is The Olympic Forum 2010. In order to be able to participate in EYP international events, one must be a member of EYP Romania and get selected during the National Selection Session.

Aims & impact:

  • Raise awareness of European issues, encourage active European citizenship and motivate students to get engaged in European politics.

  • Promote international understanding, intercultural dialogue and diversity of ideas and practices.

  • Contribute to the personal skills development of European youth.

  • Provide a forum in which young people of Europe can express their own opinions, without reverting to role play.

The systematically obtained feedback from our participants shows that we are successfully achieving our aims.

What we do

All EYP sessions follow a similar programme and are based on the same methodology:

  • Firstly the participants divide into international committees and engage in a communication training called Teambuilding.

  • In the following Committee Work the young delegates start working on a current issue of European politics and compose a joint resolution.

  • Finally, the resolutions are debated in a parliamentary General Assembly following the model of the European Parliament in both English and French.

  • Through a rich cultural programme with events such as Euroconcert, Eurovillage or the Country Presentations the participants become active and creative themselves and express themselves through music, acting and dance

In order to be able to participate in EYP international events, one must be a member of EYP Romania and to participate with success the National Selection Session and other events proposed by EYP Romania.
